KELP – 2015
Designing seating for a transitional space this project centres around a pier in Williamstown which allows for 360° views of the entire landscape of Melbourne. Main objective being to allow the many people who move through the space a place to stop and take in what is before them. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding coastal environment the design has the potential when tessellated in a larger composition to replicate the growing tree like structure inherent in seaweed. The flexibility of this furniture means it can be transported to a many number of spaces where the only constraint being the imagination of the assembler, there is no limit to the scale and shape of what is essentially a reference to a bed of kelp.
